NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

October 8th thru October 14th marks the date for “National Fire Prevention Week” in the USA. During this time many memorial services, fire awareness programs and activities will be held throughout CT.

The Hartford County Fire Emergency Plan 56th Annual Memorial Service honoring deceased firefighters will be hosted by the North Thompsonville Fire Department on Sunday, October 1. 2006. This year’s service will be held at St .Adalberts Church on Alden Street in Enfield, CT.

A procession of firefighters will assemble at the corner of Alden Street and Enfield Street (Rt. 5) at 18:00 hours and proceed to march to the church where a memorial service will begin at 19:00 hours. There is a Ed Stebens Glass business on the corner of the street to be used as a landmark and there is also a traffic light. There is plenty of parking.

Directions to NTVFD: Take I-91 north to exit 49 at the end of the exit take left on to US RT. 5 (Enfield Street), the station is ½ mile on the left at the traffic light on the corner of Brainard Road.

Following the Memorial Service refreshments will be served at the North Thompsonville Fire Department.

NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK - OCTOBER 8th - 14th

October 8th marks the start of National Fire Prevention Week throughout the U.S. This year’s theme focuses on “Prevent Cooking Fires - WATCH WHAT YOU HEAT”

Based on a NEPA survey (www.nfpa.org) did you know that:

• Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires.
• Three in 10 reported home fires start in the kitchen– more than any other place in the home.
• Cooking fires are the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries.

SAFETY TIPS:

• Kids and pets should stay at least 3 feet away from the stove when food is cooking.
• Grown-ups always pay attention to the things that are cooking.
• A grown-up watches the stove top when he or she is frying, grilling, or boiling food.

ALSO:

• If you have children with access to a computer let them log into www.nfpa.org/sparky and see what’s new and happening on Sparky’s website. Check it out, even you will become a “big kid” and take enjoyment in it.
• During this time, many fire companies throughout the State, will be observing memorial services and conducting fire prevention/awareness programs. Also throughout the 9 counties in the State there will be a Fire Prevention Poster Contest for the 4th and 5th grades throughout the State. After all the judging is done winners will be picked from their counties to see who will be the 12 winners to have their poster in a Fire Calendar as the top winner from their county.
• The Connecticut Fire Academy will be holding their Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the Academy on Firefighters Memorial Drive, Windsor Locks beginning at 14:00 hours.
• To make this the best service yet, we need for you to show your support and attend this service. Remember also that family members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

NEWS FROM AROUND HARTFORD COUNTY

Rumors have been spreading amongst HCFEP members that Chief DiPace and his crew from the Avon Fire Department have been on the lookout for the turkeys that are enroute to arrive at the Avon Fire Dept. on Wednesday November, 15th. The rumor is true, and the Avon Fire Dept. Will be hosting the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and the planned meeting that night. So mark your calendar ahead of time and plan to attend the planned meeting and dinner. More details will be available in the November Hoseline.

To all County Chiefs, Training Officers and House Captains, if there are any changers or information about your department that needs sharing, please let me know ASAP, so that I can include it in the next print of the Hoseline. If there has been a line of Duty Death, a department member has answered his or her last alarm, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can make sure that their name is added to the list and not forgotten at the Annual Hartford County Memorial Service which is held in October during National Fire Prevention Week. Also if someone is sick or in or in the hospital please forward me their names so it can be read off at the board meetings and plan meetings. OCTOBER 1, 2006	HARTFORD COUNTY FIRE EMERGENCY PLAN
The Hartford County Fire Emergency Plan 56th Annual Memorial Service is scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 1, at St. Adalberts Church in Enfield. This year’s service sponsored by the North Thompsonville Fire Department and will begin at 18:00 hours at the corner of Alden and Enfield Street (RT.5) The memorial service at the church will begin at 19:00 hours.
OCTOBER 6,7,8	NATIONAL FIRE ACADEMY, EMMITTSBURG, MD.
The National Fire Academy at Emmittsburg, MD. will be having their Twenty-Five Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service starting on Friday, October 6, and ending on Sunday, October 8, 2006. A reading of names of the firefighters that have die in the LINE OF DUTY and this year’s list has 107 of firefighters in the US.
OCTOBER 15, 2006	CONNECTICUT FIRE ACADEMY
On Sunday, October 15, at 14:00 hours a Memorial Service will be held at the Firefighters Memorial at the Connecticut Fire Academy, Firefighters Memorial Drive ( Perimeter Rd.), Windsor Locks, CT. Refreshments will be served following the service.

All of the above services require Class A uniforms (if possible)
